Nashville Shares Its Culture and History During Winter Months

Nashville is always a wonderful choice for a winter getaway. The city has so much to offer its visitors, and this is especially true during the first months of the New Year!  The Nashville Convention Center draws visitors from around the United States for its conventions and festivals, and they have a major event planned this season.  The Nashville Boat & Sports Show will be taking place at the Convention Center January 6-11, and both boat aficionados and outdoor sports enthusiasts will marvel at the incredible exhibits and demonstrations.  Be sure to bring your entire family and come early because the first 100 children to attend will receive a complimentary life preserver.

If you are looking to experience the rich culture and history that Nashville has to offer during your visit, be sure to visit The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson during your stay.  History buffs and those just learning about Nashville history will all find something interesting at this historic site, which has been preserved as both a museum and historic home.  During February, which is Black History Month, individuals and families can learn more about the Hermitage’s history of slavery through its Stories from the Hermitage Slave Community exhibit.  This exhibit is ongoing and features stories and images depicting the struggle and hard work of the individuals who lived at the Hermitage as slaves.

Heed the Call of the Wild and Travel to San Diego

SeaWorld in San Diego offers guests an exciting new show that combines the grace of birds, the playful energy of dolphins, and the power of pilot whales. Blue Horizons, as the show has been named, is a one of a kind show that began in May and will be continuing through the rest of the year. The popularity of this unique show has quickly begun to rise and those who visit the park will be delighted to see what SeaWorld has managed to create.

If you love the marine creatures you visit at SeaWorld, you won’t want to miss out on your chance to visit the San Diego Zoo. This zoo is world famous for the wide variety of amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and other animals that call it home. The San Diego Zoo also has many fascinating exhibits for guests to examine as well. Many exhibits like Polar Bear Plunge, Rain Forest Aviary, and Flamingo Lagoon are open year-round with admission to the zoo. You will find that this zoo is one that you will be glad you didn’t miss.

For another unique experience with animals, you will also want to visit San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park. This park features 1,800 acres with more than 400 species of animals living in a habitat that is created to be just like the animal’s natural habitat. Deserts, wetlands, steppes, and many other types of natural habitats are represented throughout the park and guests can expect to see giraffes, elephants, gorillas, cheetahs, and a variety of other animals as they move through this huge park. The American Association of Museums was so impressed with these animals and their habitats that they have accredited the park as a living museum. It’s a wonderful place to relax during your getaway in San Diego!

Chicago Air and Water Show Offers Excitement for All Ages

Skyline Boat TourThe annual Chicago Air and Water Show is coming to the city August 15-16. As the largest air and water show in the United States, this event draws crowds from all over the city, state, and nation. The show began in 1959, and it just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Since its humble beginnings as a Family Day Celebration, the Air and Water Show has grown to be the largest spectator event in the U.S.

Performers in this year’s air show include the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights and Leap Frogs, Aeroshell Acrobatic Team, Lima Lima Flight Crew, and the Firebirds. Each team will take to the air to show off their flying skills, performing stunning stunts that will amaze you. Each day features both air and water performances from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show takes place at the North Avenue Beach on Lakeshore Drive. Admission for this event is free.

Because admission to the show is free, you will have more money to make the most of your visit to Chicago. We offer many lodging options near the Air and Water Show and throughout Chicago.
