Join in the Fun at the Annual Storytelling Festival in Williamsburg
Visitors to Colonial Williamsburg will have something extra special to look forward to this September as they will be able to catch the annual Williamsburg Storytelling Festival on September 19.
The Storytelling Festival will take place at the Kimball Theater, with performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Performers for this year’s event include Donald Davis, an Appalachian storyteller and former chair of National Storytelling Association; Kim Weitkamp, an original storyteller; Dylan Pritchett, an African American folklorist; and April Ulhrin, who shares multicultural tales. These storytellers are all professional performers who have performed at various events and venues throughout the country. Tales featured at the festival range from traditional southern yarns to classic American stories.
While in Williamsburg, you can watch another story unfold at the Mystery Dinner Playhouse. At this attraction, you can enjoy a meal and a haunting mystery that it is up to you to solve. The dinner is a four-course meal, complete with soup, salad, entree, and desert. Entrees include your choice of prime rib, chicken, salmon, or pasta. To solve the mystery, you will have to gather clues as the story unfolds before you. If at the end of the night you solve the case and your solution is chosen, then you will get to take home a prize!
Labor Day Events and Activities in Williamsburg
The Williamsburg area is hosting a number of events for your entertainment during the upcoming Labor Day weekend. In addition to the many great attractions in Williamsburg, Labor Day weekend offers special events and activities.
Although Labor Day is not a memorial to any war in particular, it is still a good time to celebrate America’s successes and freedom. The Labor Day Weekend Prelude to Victory event is held at Colonial Williamsburg. The Prelude to Victory: Washington Prepares for Yorktown features reenactments, special exhibits, and exhibits relating to the battle of Yorktown. This event lasts from Sept. 3 to 6. Admission to the event is included in admission to Colonial Williamsburg, which features a variety of activities, exhibits, and more.
