Koshland Science Museum ExteriorsWashington DC is the ultimate vacation destination for those wishing to learn about the nation’s heritage and its political history. However, DC has more to offer than Presidential monuments and views of the White House and the US Capitol Building. Washington DC is also home to a phenomenal number of interesting museums, not only the well known Smithsonian Institution, but also many other intriguing centers of learning, some of which remain undiscovered by many travelers to the area. Let us at Vacations Made Easy suggest three museums you might enjoy on your next visit to Washington DC.

Marian Koshland Science Museum

The Marian Koshland Science Museum offers cutting edge exhibits on contemporary issues of scientific concern such as global warming and the spread of contagious diseases. Check out the Global Warming Facts & Our Future exhibit which looks at the implications of global warming on our planet’s future. Then explore the Infectious Disease, Evolving Challenges to Human Health exhibit to examine the emergence of new disease threats and how our response affects the rate the diseases spread.

Spy City Tour

Enter the world of clandestine operations and global intrigue with a 2 ½ hour tour that includes admission to the International Spy Museum, where you can learn about past espionage efforts. As you visit the city’s espionage sites, you can participate in a fun secretive interactive mission of your own.

Madame Tussauds Washington D.C.

For a truly interesting wax museum that includes political and historical figures, as well as celebrities and athletes, do not miss Madame Tussauds where you can walk in the company of  wax versions of Barack Obama, Tiger Woods, Jennifer Lopez and so many other recognizable celebrities and prominent historical figures. There is also a “Behind the Scenes” exhibit where you can learn how the wax figures were made.

I have been to Washington D.C. and it was an amazing experience absorbing all of the history. The White House was so beautiful and about as big inside as it is outside. I loved going to all of the monuments and museums and taking private tours with our group at different locations. It would be worth it to go back and visit everything I did before.

  11. Hannah says:

I think DC would be a great place to take a vacation. If I could, I’d go right now.

  12. Sharyn says:

I recently moved to DC and I feel like I will never see all the museums and exhibits in this city! Besides the huge ones, there are TONs of smaller and very interesting ones like embassy buildings -some with great exhibits, significant religious locations – like the L. Ron Hubbard House which is the first Church of Scientology and the Temple of the Eastern Star, historic homes, Library of Congress, the Dumbarton House, Woodrow Wilson House, Textile Museum etc etc etc.

There’s tons to see and do and I recommend the Cultural Tourism website to get some insight into some of the lesser known places. http://www.culturaltourismdc.org
