Branson, MO Says Goodbye to Celebration City
For six years, Celebration City has offered Branson visitors a unique look into the American culture of the first half of the 20th century with thrill rides, live shows, and themed areas ranging in topic from ‘Route 66′ to ‘small-town America.’ And it is with much sadness that Vacations Made Easy Blog announces that Celebration City will not be opening for the 2009 season. Herschend Family Entertainment, the parent company of Celebration City, has decided to close the park permanently due to unexpectedly low profits. However, with the ever popular Silver Dollar City still presenting a world-class theme park experience throughout the year, and White Water offering splashing fun throughout the summer months, Branson is certainly not left with a want for action. That is why instead of mourning the loss of Celebration City we have decided to focus on the quality theme parks that are still alive and well in the Ozarks!
Since 1960, Silver Dollar City has been offering all of the thrills and fun of a theme park wrapped in the ambiance and culture of the Ozarks in the 1800′s. From wandering along tree-lined paths and enjoying scenic train rides to watching in awe as craftsmen display their talents and sale their wares, every step inside Silver Dollar City is a veritable step back in time. Of course, that’s not to say that Silver Dollar City is in any way lacking when compared to other popular theme parks throughout the nation. Right alongside the scenes of yesteryear you’ll find speeding roller coasters, splashing water rides, and numerous live shows to ensure that every member of your party is entertained throughout your day at Silver Dollar City!
During the summer months, Branson is blessed with not only Silver Dollar City, but White Water water park as well. Featuring 12 acres of various attractions and pools, White Water is a tropical oasis amidst the bright lights and hills that cover the 76 Strip and the Ozarks. What’s more, with special Play & Splash tickets you’ll gain access to both Silver Dollar City and White Water for a complete time of theme park fun during your next vacation to Branson, MO!

I never went to Celebration City so I really can’t say I’ll miss it. I have been to Silver Dollar City since I was very young and it is always fun. They are always adding new rides and it is great to visit with family.
I never went to Celebration City because I have friends that had gone, and they were not impressed, for the price. However, Both Silver Doller City and White Water are alot of fun. There are plenty of new exciting rides.
I had never went to Celebration City either. We always chose Silver Dollar City over Celebration City. It seemed as though SDC had so much more to offer for all age ranges. We try to go to SDC at least once a year. Every time we go, they’ve added something new to try out.
I guess the consensus was that Silver Dollar City is better than Celebration City, which might be why it survived while Celebration City went under. The nation’s economic downturn has closed shows on Broadway in New York City, so I guess it shouldn’t come as a total shock that tourist attractions everywhere are taking a hit right now. However, I think Branson is more recession proof than most places since it isn’t hard to find affordable lodging and entertainment in the Ozarks, so I highly recommend that people don’t cancel vacations this year, but instead put some dollars together and come see Branson and Silver Dollar City.
I have been to Celebration City a couple times, I really liked it, the way the themes were around the park and the firework display they put on everynight at closing was awesome. It was a little expensive, but it was nice. I do like Silver Dollar City better
I have been to Celebration City many times and I have to say the only thing that I truly enjoyed about it was the theme and the laser light show. The rest of it wasn’t that exciting. With very few rides that the entire family could ride, young and old, made the excitement go down. I like Silver Dollar City better and will continue to go there every year!
It’s always kind of sad to hear about places shutting down but perhaps it’s for the best. I’ve never been to celbration city or silver dollar city so I can’t say which is better. I suppose the people have spoken though.
I remember going to Branson USA. When they shut down and sold the park to the same owners as SDC, I just assumed the park would be much better. Not to mention St. John’s did their family picnic there a couple of years in a row. But it turned out that I was wrong. I can’t say it’s much of a surprise that it’s gone once again.
I really liked celebration city but to me it was kind of like an oversized fair without livestock. So i cant really say I am going to miss it because i do like going to silver dollar city.
I went to celebration city several times with my choir group, I have to admit there was not to much to do but the bumper cars were a blast, Celebrations city or Branson USA as may know it by , was more like a year round fair. Silver Dollar City has always been my first choice, It has several days of enjoyment to offer, and it makes learning fun. I gaurentee you will be worn out from the amazing time you will have a SDC!!
Maybe I will get to see the park before they close, I have never been before. Seems like it just opened, now is closing..
I have been to Celebration City several times and it was a lot of fun. But I do see why they closed it. It just wasn’t bringing as much of a crowd as Silver Dollar City and White Water does. But it was a great option if you didn’t want to deal with too many people.
TBU the only good thing about Celebration City was the firework display after the park closed so if silver Dollar city ever did soemthing like that i would sayjust to tear down Celebration and turn it into something useful and Silver Dollo=ar City would make alot more money than they already do now bc from the looks of it everyone liked the firework show at the end. i even recorded it on my camera i enjoyed it so much
Yaw should take down every single bit of those rides down and move them over to silver dollar city and let them put them back up the azact same way as they wer at yaws park so that they can have those rides and fireworks and all of yor other buildings and they wont be wasted and thrown away and than yaw can turn that land into something useful that is not a theme park or any thing else that branson,MO already haves today.
What this Bray guy said is a pretty good idea but my apinun is that you should not of closed the place at all because I go to Branson every year first I would go to celabration city,I would ride every single ride then I would watch the big rock show. I went to silver Dollor city the next day and it wasn’t near as good as celebration city.
What yall should do is move every single ride, show, restaurant, building, and firework just every single thing of yalls to silver dollar city and every single thing yall move there make it look asacally the same as it did at celebration city so that all of those rides wont go to waste and do the same thing for all of the other stuff.Once it’s all moved let silver dollar city choose whear to put it.
