While visiting the Big Apple experiencing Broadway is simply a must. And while some may think that there is nothing for them amidst the song and dance of the big stage, there are quite a few hits that should be recognizable from the big screen, offering performances that nearly anyone can enjoy! From the irreverent comedy of Monty Python to the story-telling prowess of John Waters, there are a number of visions reborn on Broadway in a truly fabulous manner!

Spamalot – The Musical

Off-kilter anecdotes and slap-stick comedy mark this witty musical adaptation of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” Fans of the movie must experience this show at least once out of principle alone, though even those that have never heard of the cult classic film are likely to find the humorous re-telling of King Arthur’s search for the Holy Grail to be a non-stop riot. From lines of dancing knights to killer rabbits, irreverence rings out every bit as loud as the musical numbers for an outing that will have the entire family entertained.

Hairspray

Originally released in 1988 to commercial success, and reinvented for the big screen once again in 2007, Hairspray has become a truly iconic movie for audiences from numerous generations, and stands as a perfect story to be retold on Broadway. Join Tracy Turnblad as her spunk, spirit and city hit the stage full-on. Still culturally relevant to this day, Hairspray offers a tale of fighting injustice through a lively musical that can appeal to kids and adults alike.

The Little Mermaid

From the classic tale by Hans Christian Anderson to the Disney’s beloved re-telling, The Little Mermaid has long been a classic children’s tale, and now the entire family can enjoy a live-version of this timeless tale on Broadway! The Little Mermaid on Broadway sticks closer to the Disney version, ensuring that modern audiences will be right at home throughout the performance as favorite songs such as “Part of Your World,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Under the Sea” are incorporated throughout.

I’ve seen a production of Spamalot and it’s easily one of the top 5 on my list of shows to see.
