Travel Back in History With Colonial Williamsburg and the Virginia Shakespeare Festival
While Colonial Williamsburg is well noted for its interactive focus on history the area is upping the ante this summer from June 25 – July 6 with the inclusion of the Virginia Shakespeare Festival at College of William and Mary. And just as with Colonial Williamsburg, while we’ve all read about Shakespeare and his works in books it is an entirely different thing to take the experience in live. Whether a fan of plays and writing or simply looking for an interesting way to further explore the past while visiting Williamsburg, the Virginia Shakespeare Festival is always a unique theatrical experience.
Of course, a visit to the Williamsburg area isn’t complete with a stop by Colonial Williamsburg. From admiring 18th century architecture to interacting with interpreters dressed in period clothing, every action at Colonial Williamsburg is designed to draw the guest into the old world of America. And when coupled with the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, a visit to Colonial Williamsburg provides a wide landscape of world history and culture.
Along with Colonial Williamsburg, the Williamsburg area is also host to Jamestown and the Yorktown Victory Center. Jamestown offers an immersive look into what the first colonies in Virginia were like while the Yorktown Victory Center captures the events that helped America capture its freedom from Britain.
