Big Fun in the Big Easy
You don’t want to be anywhere but Louisiana on May 2nd and 3rd as the Louisiana Crawfish Festival kicks off once again. This festival is devoted to one of Louisiana’s staple foods. The Louisiana Crawfish Festival began in 1975 and has since become a Louisiana tradition. The Festival is located in beautiful St. Bernard Parish, which is rich with moss-covered oak trees, creole tomatoes, shrimp boats and decadent Cajun heritage. While at the festival, you will be immersed in all things crawfish as you enjoy the crawfish races and enjoy authentic Cajun cuisine. From classic boiled crawfish with all the “fixins” to more interesting choices such as Crawfish Quesadillas, Crawfish Spinach Bread Bowls, Crawfish Remolaude and Crawfish Beignets. You will also enjoy traditional carnival rides and games that will satisfy anyone from toddlers to adults. From Ferris Wheels to games of skill, you will be sure to find something to enjoy at this year’s Louisiana Crawfish Festival.
If you find yourself with a Louisiana-sized craving for Cajun food after your time at the Louisiana Crawfish Festival, then the New Orleans School of Cooking is just right for you. While there you will learn to cook authentic Cajun dishes such as gumbo, shrimp creole and bread pudding. The teacher will also give you a big helping of history, as well as fun culinary facts. After class, be sure to shop around in the adjacent Louisiana General Store to stock up on all the items you would ever need to create the perfect home-cooked Cajun meal. You will return home with the knowledge and skill to create delicious Cajun-inspired cuisine.
The Swamp and Bayou Tour takes you on an extensive journey through the wetlands and swamps of Louisiana. The mystery and history of Louisiana will be explained as your guides take you for a ride that you will never forget. You’ll learn how the Cajuns created gumbo out of soup, as well as other amazing local facts. Once your boat tour is over, you will sit down to a wildlife show featuring snakes, snapping turtles, raccoons, nutria and alligators! You will also learn about the efforts Louisiana is making to protect the habitats of these amazing animals. You will cherish the memories forever as you take part in this interesting way to experience the wild side of Louisiana!
